Dr. Jonathan Watson, MD


Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine, Specializes in Arthroscopic Surgery, Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Trauma & Fracture Care

Dr. Watson received his undergraduate degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Watson continued his medical education at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He participated in internships at both Rush University Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery. During his final year of residency, he served as Academic Chief Resident. Dr. Watson recently completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as the Administrative Fellow.

Dr. Watson’s clinical interest and specialty is in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. He employs arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. He continues to be involved academically as well, serving as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Journal and has presented his research related to sports medicine and arthroscopy at both national and international conferences.

Dr. Watson was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side in the Beverly neighborhood and is eager to return to the area. He is enthusiastic about sports injury prevention and restoration. He has much team coverage experience, recently serving as Assistant Team Physician to the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a variety of other institutions, caring for athletes ranging from high school to professional. Dr. Watson is a native English speaker with proficiency in Spanish as well. He is excited to meet and help new patients at Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Care. He currently is accepting referrals for work-related injuries and can provide a diagnosis as well as treatment plan.
